Whether you’re coming to Kansas Speedway for the first time or you’ve been part of the tradition for years, a bit of planning makes race weekends much smoother. From traffic tips to staying comfortable through a long afternoon of racing, here are some useful suggestions.
Getting to the track early is one of the easiest ways to avoid stress, especially on Saturday and Sunday. Aim to arrive by late morning – that way, you can enjoy the Fan Zone, check out displays, and soak in the pre-race buzz instead of sitting in traffic or waiting in long lines at the gates.
Fans are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks, which helps keep costs down during a full day at the track. Just remember that glass containers aren’t allowed. Late September in Kansas City is usually pleasant, but afternoons can still be warm. Dress in light layers, wear sunscreen, and make sure to drink plenty of water so you stay hydrated throughout the day.
Traffic around the speedway can get heavy before major events, so plan your route ahead of time and give yourself extra travel time. Parking is free, but the closer lots fill up quickly – arriving early is your best bet for convenience.
Once inside, think about how you want to spend your day. Explore the Fan Zone, visit merchandise trailers, or walk the midway before heading to your seats. If you’re attending with a group, keep in mind that cell networks often slow down with so many fans in one place. Pick a meeting spot in advance so it’s easy to reconnect if you get separated.
